- Organise some foreign currency you may need for your trip. You can buy foreign cash from 400 King William Street, Adelaide and over the phone and use your Credit Union SA Visa Debit Card overseas.
- Memorise your PIN – this is the same PIN you use at home and is used in the same way at ATMs and in some countries, over-the-counter.
- Check the expiry date on all of your cards and ensure they are valid for the duration of your trip.
- Photocopy your Visa Debit Card and passport, but keep the photocopies separate as proof of information.
- If you are unsure of the security of an ATM please don't use it. A Visa cash advance can be done at any financial institution that displays the VISA symbol. You will need to take your card and passport as proof of ID.
- You can also turn international purchases off at any time using Internet Banking or your Mobile Banking App (for extra security). Plus, you can turn off domestic purchases and ATM withdrawals – which is a good idea if you’re travelling overseas.

You’ll be protected by Visa’s Zero Liability Policy. With Visa's Zero Liability policy*, you can get protection from fraudulent charges made with your card or account information. This means you can pay with total confidence, knowing you are protected against unauthorised use.
Plus, you now have the option to turn international purchases off at any time (for extra security) using Internet Banking or your Mobile Banking App. You can also turn off domestic purchases and ATM withdrawals – which is a good idea if you’re travelling overseas.

*Visa's Zero Liability policy covers Australian and New Zealand-issued cards and does not apply to ATM transactions, transactions not processed by Visa or certain commercial card transactions. Yes, however standard mobile contract, service and roaming charges may apply. It is recommended prior to using the Mobile Banking App overseas that you contact your mobile phone provider to establish what charges apply based on your current data plan.
Credit Union SA can provide a number of different currencies, as well as advising you on the wisest choice for your particular destination. To order currency, visit us at 400 King William Street, Adelaide or call us on 13 8777 and we will have it ready for you in 3 – 4 working days. Credit Union SA do not issue travellers cheques.

Our foreign cheque deposit conversion service is a convenient way to receive payment by foreign currency cheques. Funds are held in your account and usually become available to access after 30 business days.
This service is only available to members who held a Credit Union SA membership prior to 1 December 2022 and will not be available to new members.
